Câmara de Lobos gained known tracks for trail running, much to do with the great work of the ACD Jardim da Serra, that have been organization Trail Running and Sky Running events since 2013.
The name that for sure is well kwon by those who already have run the MIUT® (Madeira Island Ultra Trail) is the Curral das Freiras. This parish is totally surrounded by the highest mountains in the island, that are therefore a real challenge for all who love running in the high ground. The trails between Jardim da Serra and Curral das Freiras are perfect for who search tracks with amazing altitude gain and very technical courses, there is two main accesses between this locations, one from Boca dos Namorados and the other from Boca da Corrida. Both those track are used in the Ultra Trail de Câmara de Lobos.
From the parish of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, who can find several alternatives for trainings more or less demanding, with more gap or perfect for "rolling". The levada do north is the perfect stage for who want flat terrain at some altitude (around 500m to 600m), in particular the connection between this parish and the Cabo Girão (highest cape in Europe) that provides amazing views from Câmara de Lobos and Funchal.
